The Glory of Your Name

There is Power in the Name of Jesus

There is power in the name of Jesus! It offers us healing and a sense of peace only He can give. The power of the name of Jesus leads the way to help us in our spiritual and physical walks. How it fills my heart with joy and ideas about how I will conduct my life!

The power comes from who we know Him to be when we say His name. We breathe in the sweetness that He brings and exhale the gratitude we have that He came to make us whole.

Our souls cry out to Him as we feel the surge of healing when He touches our longing hearts and acknowledge the authority He has in heaven and over our lives.

I stand with my arms wide and marvel loudly about the glory in my presence. I celebrated that moment when I was baptized as an adult. I see and feel that every time I am at a baptism celebration in my church.

Each moment as the Spirit brings
New life in me my heart will sing
The glory of Your name

— song chorus

A Peace Only He Can Give

Jesus offers a sense of peace that only He can deliver. In John 14:27 we read:

27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do
not give to you as the world gives.
Do not let
your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

This verse comes from a section of scripture where Jesus and His disciples gather for a final time before He leaves them and is then arrested. Here is where Jesus tells us about the greatest gift from God we could ever receive.

What is this peace that Jesus speaks of? The Hebrew word for peace is shalom, which is a common greeting that means to wish a person a full slate of wellness.

IT IS A STATE OF COMPLETENESS, WHOLENESS, HEALTH,
PEACE OF MIND AND HEART, WELFARE, TRANQUILITY,
PROSPERITY, PERFECTNESS, FULLNESS, REST, HARMONY,
AND THE ABSENCE OF AGITATION OR DISCORD.

An Upgraded Shalom

However, this shalom that Jesus offers is different. It is not the daily nicety that people give each other, but rather a gift that only He can give. “I do not give it to you as the world gives.”

Jesus was leaving the gift of the Helper, the Holy Spirit, to help us in every aspect of our lives.

The text about this upgrade comes from four chapters in the book of John: 14 – 17 that should be read and discussed to discover the importance of shalom and the full-time gift of the Holy Spirit that Jesus offers. Jesus mentions how the Holy Spirit is involved in our future at least 5 times in this section of scripture.

He exclaims the role of the Holy Spirit and how important He becomes in our everyday lives.

Only a Taste

How often have we heard about the power in the name throughout songs and sermons? We have but been given a taste of that peace only Jesus can bring when we say “yes” to Him and are baptized. That peace helps us to praise His holy name each day and experience the presence of God on our daily journey.

These times are only the beginning of the life-long quest to learn what that means and how it affects every aspect of our lives.

There is power in incorporating the name of Jesus because of this full-time gift of the Helper who intercedes for us when words fail us, helps us transform our minds, and as we seek a deeper relationship with Him.

26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our
weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray
for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for
us through wordless groans.
27
And he who
searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit,
because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in
accordance with the will of God.

Romans 6
2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but
be transformed by the renewing of your
mind. Then you will be able to test and approve
what God’s will is — his good, pleasing and perfect will.
Romans 12

The power of Your touch
The shiver down my spine
The never-ending connection to You
That feeds my thirsty mind

song verse

The combination of the love of God through Jesus and the full-time help of the Holy Spirit has changed my life. And it will change your life and give you hope, hope you never thought you’d see again.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, how great is Your name. May Your kingdom come to earth. Lord Jesus, give me wisdom. May the power in Your name heal my walk through this life.

Thank you for the full-time gift of the Holy Spirit to help pray and seek Your guidance. Thank you for the victory over sin and death so I can live my life to the full.
